May Fuel Challenge Check-In #1

fuel challenge progress

It’s time for the first check-in for May Fuel Challenge! I’m having a blast trying to improve the mileage out of this car, but with more city driving it has made it  bit of a fun/frustrating.

My Own Fuel Challenge Progress

I’m using Fuelly to keep track of the miles I’ve driven and the money I’ve spent; if you want to friend me on the site, my username is ElleCMB. As of my last fuel-up I’ve been averaging 28.9 miles per gallon. According to Fuelly I’m doing well, but I’m not on top yet. The best record for a 2007 Honda Accord is 33mpg -I’m hoping to make that some time this month.

Sharing my own Fuel Challenge progress today

Since My Financial Review is hosting the truck/SUV challenge and the hybrid challenge, I thought it would interesting to see which models had the best gas mileage according to the US Fuel Economy site.

2012 Most Fuel Efficient Trucks and SUVs

I have to say I’m surprised at how well Ford Escape did with gas mileage.

  • Toyota Tacoma 2WD – 22mpg (4 cyl, 2.7 L, Manual (5), Regular Gasoline)
  • Chevrolet Silverado– 15 Hybrid 2WD/4WD  -21  (8 cyl, 6.0 L, Automatic (CVT), Regular Gasoline)
  • Ford Escape Hybrid FWD – 32mpg  (4 cyl, 2.5 L, Automatic (CVT), Regular Gasoline)
I’m curious to see if any MFR readers drive any of the above mentioned models. If so, could you share your average gas mileage?

Keep Going on the Fuel Challenge

I’d like to get your progress – how are you guys doing on your fuel challenge? If you’re on twitter, please chat with me (@MyMoneyReviews) and share your triumphs. If you have any tips that you’ve used (not just what you’ve read), please share them as well. I’ll e compiling them into a resource for other people to use. It’ll be nice to have challenge inspire others with their driving.
